After upgrading to an iPhone from my prehistoric mobile late last year I have since been known to have a go at almost every app available! There are apps to draw things, apps to read the news, apps that make animal noises, apps that you can read books on… the list is endless. My phone can pretty much do anything I ask it to, bar walking the dogs, but what really impressed me was its ability to help find your dog should he/she stray!
So we’ve established my phone can’t walk my dogs, neither can it physically go out and tell my dogs that they’ve been naughty boys and to come home because Mummy is getting worried should they wander off… BUT… available for smart phones, released by the Kennel Club (PetLog) in partnership with mydoguk, the Lost Pet Alert app “MyDog” is a MUST have for all canine owners!
Petlog members can mark their dog as missing on the database straight from their phones, and Petlog Premium members can send an alert to vets and authorised agents within a 30-mile radius of where the dog went missing. I think that is incredible, this means that when out on a walk should Rex or FiFi stray you are able to report them as missing as soon as you realise they have gone and not have to wait until you get home to access the computer or spend time phoning people to let them know.
Working for DogLost has made me realise how essential microchipping is for my dogs and this combined is a great way to send out an SOS should the worst happen. What’s more, unlike some services, this app is completely FREE! It also has advice on microchipping, as well as other great features like the database of dog friendly restaurants/hotels/shops etc across the nation, perfect again for owners on the move. I have used the app when visiting several different cities that I hadn’t been to before to look for places to go and grab a bite to eat with the Frenchies, and we know how important it is to find a hotel before a big show; Discover Dogs, the London Pet Show etc that allows our furry friends too!
On MyDog you can even create your own profile with your dogs, and their information, including what food they like, what their tattoo/microchip numbers are, how much they weigh (Yoda wasn’t a fan of this section!) and much more! The Family French highly recommend it and we hope to see more of you signing up soon.
